Street Art: Stratford East Village

In Stratford, just north of the International station, is a patch of land earmarked for a development called IQL North. Until construction starts, it’s home to a temporary project called the LightHouse and Gardens. This includes a community garden, a sauna and cold plunge, and a construction skills centre, amongst a number of other temporary installations.

The whole area is surrounded by hoarding, and that hoarding has been used as a canvas for a large number of murals and other artworks. Most of them were painted by the WOM Collective, a group of London based female artists, at two paint jams.

If you’re passing through Stratford International, it’s well worth a look whilst they still exist.

My favourite photos from this trip have also been added to my Women in Street Art and London Street Art 2026 galleries.

The 2023 Murals

The WOM Collective first painted the hoardings in July 2023, with a few more pieces added a few weeks later (Inspiring City has photos of them when they were fresh). Three years on, some of them are peeling, but most are still going strong.

A great tit with a yellow chest and blue wings perched on a branch of pink cherry blossom, painted on pale green hoarding with patches of peeling paint.

Lore’s bird on a cherry branch.

A woman with purple hair and green eyes holding a glass dome over a pot of grass, among purple spotted mushrooms.

Mushrooms by Apparan.

A large pale lilac flower with an eye at its centre, flanked by two golden mushrooms, painted on pale green hoarding with a tall building behind.

Flower and fungus, most likely by Tash Creates.

A woman with a dark purple bob peering through a clump of white daisies and long grass, painted on pale green hoarding under a blue sky.

By Damitta.

The letters WOM in orange, pink and purple, with two bees with pale cartoon faces flying either side.

WOM lettering by Lours.

Large pink and white lilies with green leaves painted along curving black hoarding, next to a security sign.

Lilies by 7th Pencil.

A red fox with a shaggy coat sniffing at the ground among dark grass and glowing fireflies, painted on white hoarding.

Shauna Blanchfield’s urban fox.

The Wom Man Jam

In September 2024 the collective came back for its “Wom Man” jam, which paired up female and male artists on collaborative pieces under the theme of Unity (Inspiring City lists all 24 pairings). These are the ones I could match up from the signatures.

A black and white portrait of an old man with a drooping moustache and a spiral painted on his forehead, among glowing blue mushrooms.

By Don Kapochino, paired with Layla (her portrait is below).

A blue bearded wizard with a staff, in front of a snarling bear, with stars and red lightning on dark purple hoarding.

By Minto, paired with Shauna Anseo (below).

A black and white portrait of a woman with long wavy hair, dark paint streaked down her face and pale blue eyes, between glowing blue mushrooms.

By Layla.

A woman wearing a bear's head as a hood, its fangs over her forehead, with streaks of red around her face.

By Shauna Anseo.

A green cat with a pale skull behind its head, inside a diagonal green frame, next to large red letters.

Probably by Flaseado, who painted with Litha (her cat is below), but I couldn’t find a signature on this half.

A green-skinned girl with large purple eyes and long green hair under a giant spotted mushroom cap.

By LeSpleen.

A purple cat with claws out and wisps of white smoke, beside red WOM MAN lettering.

By Litha.

A woman with a green face and a red stripe across her cheek, beside a purple flower and a snarling white dragon.

By Elle and Bjorn.

A cartoon woman with a purple face, green lips and a green head wrap, among green swirls.

By Art Jaz.

A purple face in profile among green smoke, above green letters spelling UNIT.
A cartoon woman with long red braids and gold earrings, her arm raised in a green sleeve.

By Alethea.

And the Rest

There’s plenty more along the hoardings that I couldn’t put a name to. If you know who painted any of these, let me know.

Close-up of a woman with long red hair and green skin, her arm stretched out across a dark forest of birch trees.
The same mural from further back: the woman stretched along the hoarding among birch trees and red clouds.

Probably by Damitta: the signature in the corner is cut off after “Dam”.

A striped purple wolf with a red spotted scarf walking alongside three yellow geese, one wearing a hat.
A red fox in a striped hat and a yellow badger running past a big purple and yellow animal, behind a rail replacement bus sign.
Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble painted in white with red and blue outlines, as if glitching, on grey and green hoarding.

Signed Eyesaw.

A woman with short dark hair in a red top, painted in shades of red over green graffiti letters.
Three cartoon faces, one green, one pink and one in a green beanie, with a crocodile lying across the top.
Close-up of a pink woman's face in profile, with a glowing heart outline and swirls of pink and white.
A girl with long brown hair and a magpie perched on her hand, on a purple background with the word UNITY.
A woman in profile in purple and black, with sunglasses pushed up and streaks across her face.
A woman in profile with a red face and dark lips, painted on a pink panel next to a green one.
